A Message from GNI about COVID-19

An Important Message from Gay Naturists International (GNI)

The world is grappling with an issue of enormous scale and human impact, and our hearts go out to all who have been affected by the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19). GNI believes it is our role and responsibility during this time to prioritize two things: the health and well-being of our members and Gathering attendees while also playing a constructive role in supporting local health and government officials as they work to contain the virus. To that end, we would like to make a formal announcement:

Gay Naturists International (GNI's) 35th Anniversary Gathering - GNI's Naked Camp - will take place as planned August 21-30, 2020 in eastern Pennsylvania. GNI is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of attendees in light of concerns about COVID-19, commonly known as the coronavirus.

We are closely monitoring developments and staying abreast of updates from health organizations responsible for tracking and responding to the virus, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), European Centre fo r Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and Australian Department of Health.

GNI is prepared to rapidly respond to any issues prior to our event and provide assistance as the need arises before August 21. We are taking the following actions to prepare:
  • Adhering to all guidance and recommended safety measures issued by the WHO, CDC, the Pennsylvania Department of Health Services, and local health organizations.
  • Working with the Gathering's venue to coordinate appropriate safety procedures.
  • Following CDC recommendations and protocols for heightened cleanliness at event facilities, including increasing the number of hand sanitizing stations located throughout the venue.
  • Actively encouraging attendees to take common-sense precautions and follow CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of illness.
GNI is taking COVID-19 very seriously and is fully engaged and prepared to host a successful 35thAnniversary Gathering.

While no one can predict with certainty how severe the impact of coronavirus will be in five months, we will be constantly monitoring the situation. We encourage attendees to visit the CDC website and government websites of their own country for additional information and follow the WHO's Travel Advice as they consider their travel arrangements, as well as its recommendations for prote cting themselves. In addition, we will be closely monitoring all travel alerts issued by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in the coming months, if any.

Thank you for being a loyal member and supporter of GNI. It is our intent to remain transparent, providing the latest information from GNI here. We're very grateful for your ongoing support and look forward to seeing you in August.

Paul Leppla Shares His GNI Experience

I went to GNI for the first time in 2006 and went several times in the following years. It was a very liberating time for me and was great to be with fellow nudists.

Paul enjoying a themed social party
My husband and I are tent campers, but we have an assigned cabin and bunk available too. Most do not tent camp.  The weather at times in the Poconos is wet and you might be glad you have a dry area!  Our assigned cabin is where we shower.

The food is typical camp style with volunteers helping in the food serving building.... along with the camp employees.

You can do many activities listed on the schedule, or you can do nothing but enjoy the pools and the climate.  I feel the activities are so many it is wise to choose carefully, or you might need a vacation from it all!

The dance hall is an evening highlight as are nearby cabin parties....
The music dance hall music is very good and there is a "theme" for the week.

Several groups/cabins have afternoon open house for all to enjoy. One is a salsa party. The "Bears" have a pool party which is always a lot of fun.

Beer, soda, & water is provided in the camp coolers by the lunchroom area.  Late afternoon cocktail party near the lake or gym (if raining) is where you can get a beer, wine or soda (diet or regular).

This daily party usually has a theme for the day where all the creative gay genes come alive.

Sports activities are always going on at the sports fields and several workshops in the various cabins and gym.  Learning how to give a massage comes to mind!   Oil wrestling is always popular.

As the days go on, the larger theater/meeting area there is entertainment and various talent contests. This happens in the evening.  In one of the dining halls there is usually a gay theme movie with popcorn!

Across the lake is another “play area” that you might want to check out.... again, across the lake!

You will meet many nice people from all over the country and the world.  I recommend going.

GNI Announces Mark Branson as Mr GNI Leather 2019

It is our pleasure to introduce Mark Branson as Mr GNI Leather 2019.  Jordan Tower has done a great job promoting GNI to the leather community.  Due to personal and professional challenges, Jordan is unable to continue in the role of Mr GNI Leather.  Mark has accepted the title and will represent GNI at International Mr Leather and International Mr Boot Black competition in Chicago in May.

Join us in celebrating GNI and to welcome Mark Branson as Mr GNI Leather at GNI Pocono Eagle’s Bourbon, Cigar and Boots party in Fort Lauderdale at LeatherWerks on March 6.  Tickets can be purchased at poconoeagle.eventbrite.com.

GNI Board Elections

The GNI Board Needs You!

GNI thrives on the work of its volunteers, whether it is a couple of hours at The Gathering, hosting an evenings' entertainment, serving on a committee or on the Board of Directors. All of these volunteer positions represent a commitment to the success of GNI and our annual events. One way of giving back is to serve as a GNI Board member. Board members are crucial to GNI's success. Besides their work related to our annual events, they are the glue that keeps GNI working from year to year. The GNI Board has five members with staggered, three-year terms. In 2020, two (2) Board positions will be up for election. These positions will serve a three (3) year term beginning at the end of The Gathering in August.

If you have ever thought of joining the Board, now is the time! Don't assume that we already have enough candidates to fill these two spots. GNI benefits when there is a competitive election, so throw your name into the hat!

The qualifications of candidates for Board membership include:

     1. Membership in good standing for at least one year.
     2. Must have attended at least one (1) GNI Gathering, NakedFest, or Australia event.
     3. Must have shown active participation in advancing the vision and mission of GNI through volunteer and/or committee work to benefit the organization, active participation in GNI-sponsored events and/or other evidence of the promotion of gay naturism.

Board members serve a term of three (3) years. Responsibilities of Board members include:

     1. A three-day, mid-winter meeting usually held in late October / early November.
     2. Membership and active participation in one or more committees.
     3. Availability for Board meetings prior to and during The Gathering, NakedFest and/or Australia.
     4. Tasks and responsibilities during and after The Gathering, NakedFest, and/or Australia.
     5. Monthly board teleconference calls.
     6. Reliable e-mail, Internet, and mobile phone service (text capable).

While there is a significant commitment of time and energy, there are many rewards in working with a dedicated group of individuals who have the health and welfare of GNI in their hearts and minds.

Do you have questions? Contact GNI at gni@gaynaturists.org.

If you are interested in running, e-mail the following to the Business Office (gni@gaynaturists.org), by April 1, 2020:

     1. A short biography indicating your reasons for running for the Board, and
     2. A shirtless headshot (or indicate that your profile picture in the GNI member directory is sufficient).

Or mail to (must be postmarked by April 1):

The 2019 Gathering Hangover, from Rick Bach, Mr. GNI 2018

The Gathering Hangover, nothing to do with alcohol.

There's no way that you can go back to your outer world without a wonderful residue from the Gathering.

Driving home from the Gathering silently for hours, was drifting in and out of moments from the week. The realization arose that the last week was the happiest week of my year, no question man.

We spent our time together in community and camaraderie that seeps in without warning. The safeness of a level playing field with absolutely no judgement allowed our freak flag to fly. For most, a time like no other. Icing on that cake is the new individual connections/friendships we'll have as long as we feed them.

Then the awareness appeared of what we don't have . . .
In seven Gatherings attended, never heard a verbal or saw a physical altercation. No thievery or such from our outer world,if you would. Could have happened of course, but never experienced here. Seems that we've got a bit of a utopian society cooking.

On that note, how about a permanent year round complex somewhere in the sun in addition to the Gathering? A place based on the philosophies GNI's Gathering, where one could visit short term, live long term or swap out with others? Let your thoughts be known if you can help to make it happen.

Let's continue and expand Gay Naturists International  for generations to come. An ideal way to live.

CONGRATS to Gerald Knott, Mr. GNI 2019.
Well deserved.
Long live the Queen, he said lovingly.

Cheers Gentlemen,
Rick Bach
Mr. GNI 2018

A Message from Mr. GNI 2019, Gerald Knott

Hello All!
Words could never express the gratitude that I feel, for being chosen to represent this wonderful group of men as your new Mr. GNI 2019.
I truly thank you and feel such honor to have this title. Please know all will be done here to continue to spread the word of this great organization.
I have met the most amazing people I could ever meet, and those never to be forgotten at GNI.   How lucky we are to have this beautiful place where we can be free to be us!
And able to celebrate our bodies no matter how young or old, how large or small, all with imperfections and perfections.
All without judgement.
Thank you GNI, you're are the BEST!!!
Gerald Knott, Mr. GNI 2019

A Message from our Executive Director, Rick Johnson

I can’t believe it’s our 35th anniversary this year! How time flies, for sure. For those that have been around since the 90’s, you’ve seen a lot of changes in GNI. We’ve had many fantastic years and we’ve had some challenging ones but we’ve seen the spirit of our GNI brethren stand in unity to weather any storm that has been thrown our way over the decades. Of course, none of this is possible without you and your unwavering support for this fantastic group of men.

We also just began a new decade! That’s also hard to believe as well. I mean, we’re already one-fifth of the way into this new decade, but I remember the turn of the century like it was yesterday. Yes, many things have changed.  Thanks for modern science, we now have life-saving medication to keep men healthy and let’s not forget the Obergefell ruling by the United States Supreme Court acknowledging our right to marriage equality in every state. It was almost impossible to believe that just twenty years ago either of these things would be seen in our lifetimes, yet, here we are. Indeed, we are thankful for progress.

I’d like to start this New Year on a positive note letting you all know there is renewed excitement and growth within GNI. Last year (2019), we had over 220 first timers at The Gathering and we are hopeful that the majority of men will return again this year. We also had one of the largest international crowds in years hailing men from all over the world from faraway places including Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Honduras, Brazil, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Russia, and never to be forgotten, our closest neighbor, Canada.

The recent Boot’s ‘N Bourbon Party at Mid-Atlantic Leather in Washington DC this January was another huge success! I won’t steal Pocono Eagle’s thunder, but suffice it to say that Pocono Eagle continues to grow and sign more men up for naked camp every day. Thank you, Pocono Eagle! Over the next few months, you’ll be hearing more from Pocono Eagle on some exciting news.

There’s also a buzz amongst cabin coordinators who’ve already reached out to me letting me know they are already making plans to fill their cabins. No doubt, every cabin is going to be in use come August and we are more than expecting to completely fill to capacity! This is great news for everyone, but it also means planning and preparation on your part well in advance so you don’t find yourself on a waitlist to register.

Preparations are well underway for a smashing dance-club experience this year! Team Dance Club, the men who bring you our yearly disco, has been hosting GNI’s world-class club and this year will be no different. We’ll announce what they’re planning to do later when all of their organization has been completed. Stay tuned for that.

Furthermore, Body Electric and our popular Yoga Retreat are returning again and we’re expanding our sexology programming which we first introduced in 2019. Don’t wait to register for Body Electric or Yoga; you can do so on the Gathering registration form.

I was on the phone with Howard the other day and he said, “Be sure to tell the guys that I’m so looking forward to seeing them again and helping GNI celebrate its 35thanniversary!” Howard has been such a supporter of GNI and of naturism over the years that he also was awarded the Murray Kaufman Natural Man Award in 2019! Stop by the main camp office if you need any help with the camp or just to say “Hi.”

There is lots more on tap that we’re working on but we can’t announce quite yet; suffice it to say that this is all exciting news. We hope that you join us for one of our landmark, anniversary years. Plan early and bring a friend, or three! Registration for naked camp is now open and confirmations are being issued quickly. Don’t wait!
